The Rupert and Dorothy Radcliffe Scholarship Foundation

The Rupert and Dorothy Radcliffe Scholarship Foundation was established to honor the legacy of two extraordinary individuals who understood the transformative power of education. Rupert Radcliffe, affectionately known as Brooksie, and his devoted wife Dorothy dedicated their lives to uplifting the Higgin Town community, where they raised their four children and touched countless lives through their unwavering commitment to education and community service.

Rupert's journey began in humble circumstances. Raised by a single mother, he left school at age ten to help support his family. Despite having only basic literacy skills, he became a master tiler and builder, demonstrating that determination and hard work could overcome life's early challenges. Rupert remained passionate about education throughout his life, understanding its vital role in creating productive, independent, and socially responsible citizens.

His commitment to education was manifested in many ways. He ensured his children never missed a school day and frequently provided financial assistance to other families in the community to help their children access education. Beyond formal schooling, Rupert became a mentor to many young men in the community, teaching them the art of tiling and supporting others in pursuing trades such as mechanics and electrical work. His generosity extended to sharing his construction expertise for school and church building projects, embodying the spirit of community service.

Dorothy's story is equally inspiring. Brought to Higgin Town as an infant by her father, she developed deep roots in the community. Though her formal education ended after primary school, she never lost her desire for learning and self-improvement. Dorothy channeled her early experience of cooking for her family into an accomplished chef, using these skills to nurture not just her immediate family but the broader community. She migrated to the United States of American where she became a Certified Nursing Assistant, providing quality of life needs to patients. Today, she continues to find joy in providing nourishment and support to those in need, exemplifying the foundation's values of compassion and service.

Rupert and Dorothy shared an unwavering belief in educational excellence despite facing limited opportunities for higher education. They lived by the principle that everyone deserves their basic needs met and the chance to pursue their dreams. Their commitment to education and community development in Higgin Town and beyond continues through their children and grandchildren.
